Emeritus Professor Paul Abbott

Emeritus Professor Paul Abbott
Paul Abbott is Emeritus Professor of Dentistry at The University of Western Australia. He is a Specialist Endodontist with over 46 years of clinical experience. Prior to taking a full-time University position in 2002, he spent 17 years in private specialist endodontic practice and held part-time positions at The University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne. He was Dean and Head of the School of Dentistry at The University of Western Australia and Director of the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia from 2003-2009. He has presented over 1800 lectures and courses in 55 countries. He has 436 publications with 275 articles in refereed journals, 25 textbook chapters and 50 Newsletter articles. From 2015-2022, he was Editor-in-Chief of the journal Dental Traumatology. His main research and clinical interests revolve around dental traumatology, tooth resorption, diagnosis and management of pulp, root canal and peri-radicular conditions, with particular emphasis on pain control and disinfection. He has won numerous awards for teaching, research and service to the profession, including the Jens O. Andreasen Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dental Traumatology and the Louis I. Grossman Award for cumulative publications of significant research and extraordinary contribution to endodontology. Paul is also an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Dr George Bogen
Dr. George Bogen is currently Senior Lecturer and former Lead and Program Coordinator for the Discipline of Endodontics at the University of Queensland, Oral Health Centre in Brisbane, Australia. He maintained a private Endodontic practice in Los Angeles, California from 1998-2018. Dr. Bogen received his dental degree in 1978 and his certificate in Endodontics in 1995, both from the University of Southern California (USC). He is the past President of the Southern California Academy of Endodontists, past Secretary and Trustee of American Association of Endodontists Foundation, currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Journal of Endodontics and Journal of the California Dental Association, past member of the AAE Corporate Relations Committee and a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Bogen received the Presidents Award from the American Association of Endodontists in 2023. He has published numerous research articles, textbook chapters and lectured nationally and internationally.

Dr Julia Eick Iglesias

Dr Julia Eick Iglesias
Dr Julia Iglesias has been a Senior Lecturer in Endodontics at Charles Sturt University, Australia, since 2023. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil, in 2013, followed by a Clinical Postgraduate qualification in Endodontics at the same institution in 2015.
She was awarded a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics) in 2017 and a PhD in Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics) in 2022 from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. During this period, she maintained an active role in private practice as an endodontist while teaching in specialist endodontic education programs in Brazil from 2017 onwards.
Dr Iglesias research focuses on contemporary endodontic practice, with particular interest in irrigants, intracanal medicaments in regenerative endodontic procedures, and guided endodontics.

BDS, MDS, DDSc (Adel), FDSRCSEd, FRACDS.

Following graduation from The University of Adelaide in 1956, Geoffrey Heithersay’s passion for endodontics and especially dental traumatology was a major motivation during his subsequent 4 years postgraduate studies in the UK and Sweden. On return to Adelaide he established a private practice and become part time member of the Adelaide Dental School 1962 where he was appointed to lead and develop the theoretical and clinical teaching of Endodontics. Sixty-four years later he is still involved in undergraduate and post graduate teaching. Primarily a clinician he practised as a specialist endodontist until 2002. He continues to be active in research, particularly into dental traumatology and tooth resorption and has 76 publications and 7 book chapters. Awards include an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for endodontic education in 1998, the Louis Grossman award of the American Association of Endodontists in 2000 for research and in 2021 the Jens Andreasen lifetime achievement award in dental Traumatology. In 2009 he received three awards for excellence in teaching, the Faculty of Health Sciences Executive Dean’s award, The Stephen Cole the Elder award and The University of Adelaide’s Vice Chancellor’s award.

Prof Ove Peters

Prof Ove Peters
Prof. Peters is a clinician-scientist at the UQ School of Dentistry; his expertise is in endodontics, including root canal treatment and vital pulp therapy, combining lab research with clinical studies and >35 years of experience as a dentist.
Current as of January 2026, Prof. Peters has published more than 250 manuscripts and has authored two books as well as book chapters in several leading textbooks in dentistry; he is an associate editor for the International Endodontic Journal, an academic editor for PLOS One and serves on the review panels of multiple other journals. Among other honours, Dr Peters has received the Hans Genet Award of the European Society of Endodontology, the Louis I. Grossman Award of the American Association of Endodontists and the Distinguished Scientist Award in Pulp Biology by the IADR. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, a member of OKU and a Fellow of both the International and American Colleges of Dentistry.

Prof Giampiero Rossi-Fedele

Prof Giampiero Rossi-Fedele
Giampiero Rossi‑Fedele is a specialist endodontist who graduated in Dentistry from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1996. He completed an MClinDent in Endodontology with distinction at UCL Eastman Dental Institute in 2005 and a PhD at PUCRs in Brazil in 2013. After nearly a decade in practice and postgraduate teaching in the UK, he became Professor at the Adelaide University, where he leads the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics) program and coordinates undergraduate teaching.
He is active in professional education, serving on the Australian Society of Endodontics Education Subcommittee and contributing to major guidelines for specialist and undergraduate training in Australia and New Zealand. He has been an external examiner for numerous universities worldwide and a referee for professorial promotions and research grants.
Professor Rossi‑Fedele maintains extensive international research collaborations and has produced over 150 peer‑reviewed publications. He is Associate Editor of the European Endodontic Journal and a member of the Editorial board of the International Endodontic Journal. He translated the 2020 IADT trauma guidelines into Italian and currently works clinically as a Senior Specialist in Endodontics at the Adelaide Dental Hospital.

Prof Roy George

With over 25 years of experience in dental education and clinical practice, Professor Roy George is a highly respected clinician, academic, and leader in contemporary dentistry. He currently serves as Program Director for the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) and Discipline Head of Endodontics at Griffith University’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, Australia, where he has played a pivotal role in curriculum development across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Professor George is an experienced endodontist with expertise in both surgical and non-surgical endodontics. His clinical practice integrates advanced technologies, including dental operating microscopes and hard and soft tissue lasers, to enhance diagnostic accuracy and clinical outcomes. He is deeply committed to education and actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students, mentoring future dental specialists and clinician-scientists.

His research interests include laser applications in endodontics and general dentistry, dental materials science, and the integration of digital technologies in dental education. Professor George has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has supervised numerous PhD and Honours candidates. He currently serves as Associate Editor of Lasers in Medical Sciences and is a Member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr Marcus Yan

Dr Marcus T Yan
BDS, MDSc(Endo), FRACDS, MRACDS(Endo), FPFA, FICD, FADI

Dr Marcus Yan is a specialist endodontist with over two decades of clinical, academic, and professional leadership experience. He graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney in 1994 and completed a Master of Dental Science (Endodontics) at the University of Queensland, together with a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in 2001. He was admitted as a Member of the RACDS in the specialist field of Endodontics in 2008.

Dr Yan is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, and the Academy of Dentistry International, and has previously served as a Captain in the Royal Australian Army Reserve Dental Corps.

He is actively involved in advancing endodontic education and collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region. Dr Yan has served as the Australian Councillor to the Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation (APEC) since 2005 and is the elected Secretary of APEC for the terms 2023–2025 and 2025–2027. He is also a Past President of the Australian Society of Endodontology (NSW Branch).

Dr Yan’s clinical and research interests focus on rotary instrumentation and microsurgical endodontics. He is a highly sought-after speaker and has lectured widely across Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and South Korea with publications in the Australian Endodontic Journal and the Annals of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

An experienced educator, Dr Yan has been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Sydney since 2002, Senior Lecturer in Endodontics at the University of Queensland since 2017, Guest Professor in the Master of Endodontics program at the International University, Cambodia, and Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Puthisastra, Cambodia. In 2024, he was appointed Clinical Educator for the Doctorate in Clinical Endodontics program at the University of Sydney.

Dr Yan maintains an active private specialist practice and is deeply committed to professional education, mentorship, and the global advancement of endodontics.

A/Prof Geoffrey Young
Associate Professor Geoffrey Young is a highly qualified and experienced specialist endodontist. He obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (University Medal) from the University of Sydney, his specialist endodontic degree from the University of Melbourne, and was the first endodontist in New South Wales awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the Special Field of Endodontics. He subsequently established Sydney Endodontic Centre, now the largest accredited specialist endodontic group practice in Sydney’s Inner West. A/Prof Young is Discipline Lead in Endodontics at La Trobe University. He holds concurrent Honorary Associate Professor and Adjunct Associate Professor appointments at the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University, respectively. He has over 15 years’ experience in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally. A/Prof Young is actively involved in continuing professional education through the RACDS and the Australian Dental Association at both state and federal levels.
